Welcome to Chickenbone Cards, the home of
The Heubel Guide to Souvenir Playing Cards.
This site aims to become your definitive resource to photographic souvenir playing cards from the 1890's through the 1930's. These souvenir cards present vintage scenic and social images from most of the USA, Canada and other locations at a time when cameras were rare and it was easier to purchase a deck of cards with keepsake images of your travels than it was to own a camera.
So, who is Robert Heubel? He's a collector of playing cards. His collection is the basis of this website. His interest in these cards began when his grandmother played "Go Fish" with him using a deck of California Souvenir Playing Cards. Intrigued by the images on the cards as a kid, he increased his collection in later years. But what good is having a collection if you can't share them?
It is the goal of this site to give you all known information and images of these decks. Do you have a deck of souvenir cards not posted here or noted in the Hochman Encyclopedia of American Playing Cards, let us know.
If you enjoy this site, we encourage you to tell your friends about it. And if you're feeling generous we encourage you to make a small donation through the PayPal button below.
